For years, Young kept his new profession a total secret from his family because in his native country it was then not a legitimate enterprise. Even when Young won $370.000 in prize money at a tournament in Reno back in 1999, he still kept the secret from his mother. His cover was blown when he appeared on a television interview, but says that his families attitude is now slowly starting to turn around! To date Young has won over 3 million dollars in prize money but claims he isn’t finished winning just yet! Originally from Vietnam, Young Phan moved to California as a teenager to build a new life. Upon arriving in California, he first attended English school 12 hours a day to learn the language and continued with his studies at UCLA graduating from the Polytechnic college in San Louis Obispo. After graduation Young accepted a position at a the Bicycle Casino as a casino supervisor where he fell in love with the game of Poker.
